Shanaz received her Master’s of Science degree in Counseling with a specialization in Play Therapy from University of North Texas, which is the world’s largest play therapy training center and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of Texas at Dallas. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Board Certified Counselor. Shanaz has a strong understanding of lifespan development and works with all ages, races, and cultural backgrounds. She enjoys working with a variety of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, PTSD and bipolar disorder. She understands the importance of a holistic approach to mind-body-soul wellness and the role of psychiatric medications. She will work closely with your treating doctor, psychiatrist, and other medical professionals to ensure continuity of care. She also has experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families and provides Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Activity Therapy, and Family Counseling techniques. Shanaz offers Christian Counseling upon request.
Shanaz has extensive knowledge about personalized treatment options and recognizes that you are a unique individual. She is experienced in inpatient, outpatient, residential treatment centers, and partial hospitalization programs in addition to intensive outpatient services and residential treatment in the area and is affiliated with Austin Oaks Hospital and Austin Lakes.
She completed research at the University of Texas Center for Brain Health with an emphasis in Attention-Deficient Hyper-Activity Disorder. Shanaz is a certified Personal Wellness Coach and integrates health and holistic well-being into each treatment plan based on the client’s needs. She helps those battling addictions and dual diagnosis and understands addiction as a disease and relapse prevention. She is an advocate for community based referrals and has extensive knowledge about connecting clients to support groups and available resources in the community.
Shanaz operates from a Person-Centered perspective meaning the groundwork is done by building trust, rapport, and being genuine with the client. She also integrates Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, and Solution Focused approaches into sessions and believes every individual is unique and therefore is treated as such. She believes each client has different life experiences and cultural backgrounds which she includes into sessions and creates a safe, trusting environment for clients to meet their specific needs and goals.

In her free time Shanaz enjoys practicing Bikram yoga, working out, cooking, volunteering in the community, supporting her Dallas Cowboys, and participating in church activities with her husband.
